Not all superheroes wear capes, but GP’s Programmer and Analyst Faith McCombs does.

Faith, an employee at the Brunswick Cellulose mill in Brunswick, Georgia, dedicates her free time to promoting awareness for children with cancer. Faith shows up to a variety of fundraising events dressed up as their favorite superhero or princess and the children immediately light up! Just one of the events that she participated in last year, the Georgia Ovarian Cancer Alliance’s annual Teal Trot 5k in Atlanta, raised $120,000 toward cancer education, awareness and patient outreach programs.

Faith started helping her community as just a hobby and saw how much joy the children received just from her showing up all dressed up. Faith started working with a company that focused on parties for children and charity events and used the opportunity to raise childhood cancer awareness. Her work with ovarian cancer was originally driven by her mother’s own personal battle with stage 4 ovarian cancer and as of December 2018, we are happy to share that her mother has been declared NED (No Evidence of Disease) with continuous scanning.

Faith has been with GP for a little over two years and is a part of the Containerboard and Cellulose Applications team, in which she is responsible for standardizing IT systems that are used to support mill functions. The outreach work that Faith does is priceless for herself, the kids and the parents that get to witness the overwhelming joy that comes across the faces of their children. She exemplifies the incredible volunteer spirit of our GP employees by being dedicated to giving back to her community.
