The Bahamas Receive Relief Supplies from Georgia-Pacific After Hurricane Dorian

Hurricane Dorian, a category 5 hurricane that didn’t budge over the Bahamas for two days, resulted in the worst natural disaster in the country’s history. The storm killed at least 51 people, left 70,000 homeless and racked up an estimated $7 billion in damages.

On the Tuesday after the storm hit, there were only a few organizations allowed on the ground to assist. One of them was Convoy of Hope, GP’s ongoing partner for distributing products in disaster areas. As part of its 30 plane loads carrying 400,000 pounds of relief supplies and 100,000 meals to-date, Georgia-Pacific supplied building products and four truckloads of bath tissue and paper towels. In addition, Convoy of Hope commits to supplying aid for a minimum of one year. They will supply a warehouse in southern Florida to service communities and dedicated organizations who are providing shelters to Bahamian refugees that have temporarily relocated.
